History
With the establishment of major US military installations – Clark Air Base in Angeles City & Subic Naval Base in Olongapo City – the furniture industry grew in response to the increasing demand of American servicemen for furniture. Exposed to Western preferences in the local market, the horizon for exports was opened to entrepreneurs.
Today, there are close to 200 furniture manufacturers in Pampanga, 40 of which are currently exporting directly & indirectly to the USA, Europe, Canada and Australia.
The trend of exports of Philippine furniture over the last two years indicates a 35-40% annual average growth. For Pampanga, export sales of furniture accounted for about 50% of total exports sales of non-traditional products.
Undoubtedly, the furniture industry has contributed to Pampanga’s current standing as one of the country’s industrially dynamic centers of economic growth.
The industry has continuously been a beneficiary of packages of assistance from the Department of Trade and Industry particularly in the areas of technical assistance, marketing and product development.
